I have been to Italy many times and this gelato is as good as anything I have tried there. The owner creates a lot of Hawaiian themed flavours. One I tried was a Banana Fudge made with local bananas and local fudge. He said he tries to get as many local ingredients as possible, and they do organic too! They also have some flavours which are dairy, sugar, and fat free, its amazing. There is something here for everyones diets.
When I talked to the owner, he said that he is also starting to launch a new line of chocolates using a lot of Hawaiian grown chocolate with tropical themes. They sound delicious and I got to try a Lilikoi (passion fruit) creme and it was to die for. This man puts a lot of effort and passion into his products and it really shows.
The only negative thing is the price, which is a bit expensive. But, when you are buying gelato, you are buying a product which is vastly superior to traditional ice cream and thus costs more to make. That coupled with the fact he tries to use local ingrediants and has to get some ingrediants shipped in makes the price seem very reasonable.
So if you are on vacation and find yourself in the Poipu area I highly recommend stopping in for some of the best ice cream that at least I have had. Oh, also, they give out as many tastes as you want, so if you don't like the first taste, don't be hesitant to try another one. Everyone's taste palettes are different and there is defiantly something for everyone at this great little store! "

Fell in love with this place which was right down the street from my hotel in Kauai. Walked in and was glad to see fun sorbetto flavor selections (lychee, passion fruit, guava, blood orange, acai with banana, avacado, mango, etc.) on top of the gelato. I was addicted to their lychee sorbetto.

Just had Papalani Gelato (but the Sorbetto for the kids and I who have gluten, egg, dairy, peanut, pineapple, wheat allergies) and it was DELICIOUS! The owner is kind and you just have to watch out for the lemon sorbetto (has trace of milk). We had Blood Orange and Wild Berry and will go back again before our trip is over!

OK kids, here's the "scoop"(pun intended). I went to Papalani Gelato tonight. I met the owner Marck Shipley. He is very nice and was THRILLED that we were talking about his store on TA.
First off, his prices are reasonable for a resort store. Not quite as high as has been suggested here. A single is $3.75, regular is 5.75. He wanted me to make sure to mention that they have chocolates and other items as well. And, I think, starting tomorrow will have cakes.
They have a limited selection today but I think that will grow as he is open for more than 24 hours. It takes a while to get things set up in a parlour like this.
I tried samples of Vanilla bean and Belgian chocolate. Both were smooth and rich like you would expect from a Gelato. They also offer Sorbeto(sorbet) as well as Organic choices for those so inclined. For those not familiar with Gelato it is an Italian take on ice cream. It is much lower in butterfat than our ice creams but is much lower overrun(less air whipped in) so it has a very dense texture giving it a premium mouthfeel. Good stuff!
Since I just had a couple small tastes I can't give a full review here but I will go back tomorrow for a full serving.
Finally, Marck says anyone who mentions TripAdvisor to him when they go in will get a discount! So don't be shy.

Excellent gelato at a great price. They let you have as many sample tastings as possible. They make the gelato fresh everyday so the flavor are different each day too.

Oh my god, this is one of the best gelato and sorbetto place I've been to ever! It's truly heavenly! The pistachio gelato is so packed with nuts (finely ground), it's one of the best pistachio ice cream I've every had. They have a large selection of sorbettos as well. The passion fruit sorbetto is wonderfully tart. Really, I wished we discovered this place sooner!

We just returned from Kauai and are disappointed to say we only made it to your store 3 times. We stayed just north of Hanalei and wished that you had a store closer to the north part. We would have went every day. We stopped by after our 2 trips to Waimea Canyon, and it was our last stop on the way to the airport. It was the best gelato/ ice cream/ frozen treat we have ever had. Every flavor we tried was outstanding - and we tried several. I even had to order the vanilla it was so good! Yes, it was that good that we can't stop thinking about when or where we can get our next fix. And we tried the other ice cream stores on the island because they were close - and were supposed to be the "best ice cream on the island" - and were disappointed. Your gelato was a taste of heaven!
